Catherine Street in Allison Hill features one bumpy ride.
It’s pothole season, which usually corresponds with other increased road projects around the region, so get ready for detours. Every spring, the winter’s destruction is evident on local streets with growing crevices and bumps. This year, the city of Harrisburg has developed new technology to allow residents to help them literally get to the bottom of it.
The city is asking residents to report problem potholes and areas through a new reporting tool developed by the city’s IT team. Residents whose cars are being swallowed either on streets where they live or streets where they drive regularly in the city limits can report the potholes on City Streets online at harrisburgpa.gov/potholes. Residents can enter the closest address, details about the bad street, and their contact information. GIS technology is used to help address the problem.
“As weather conditions allow, we are using hot asphalt to patch up the roads throughout the City,” said Dave West, Director of Public Works. “I encourage residents to use this new tool to alert us on locations that need addressed.”
Residents can also call the non-emergency city help desk at 3-1-1 or 717-255-3040, Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. to report issues.
