Real Men Wear Pink

Breast cancer is the most common cancers in American women, and can affect men as well. In 2018, the American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 266,120 new cases for women and 2,550 new cases for men. Through research and fundraising, the American Cancer Society strives to increase awareness of male and female breast cancer.

Since 2016, the Real Men Wear Pink campaign has recruited men to help fight breast cancer.

This year, a distinguished group of community leaders has chosen to stand up to take up the fight. They are:

They have committed to raise awareness and funds to help fight against cancer. Every dollar raised helps the American Cancer Society save lives from breast cancer through early detection and prevention, innovative breast cancer research, and patient support. So far, the $50,000 goal of the campaign has been met over halfway! Through their website, www.realmenwearpinkacs.org/harrisburgpa, you can choose to support a specific candidate, or donate to the campaign as a whole.

The American Cancer Society provides many other opportunities to support and raise funds for breast cancer. The Making Strides Walk raises money to provide free information and support, and help people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it’s most treatable. The Walk starts at 8:30 am on City Island, Saturday, October 20th. You can find more information online at www.makingstrideswalk.org/harrisburg.

In recognizing October as Breast Cancer Awareness month, take a stand and make a difference by donating your time or finances to one of these campaigns. We are thankful and proud for all of the men and women in the city of Harrisburg who have given their resources to fight against breast cancer.
