Feeding the community

Pastor Vera Ann Williams (center) of The God Is Love Family Inc. in Harrisburg works with volunteers Tania and Lori to distribute boxes of food to Harrisburg residents. The church is a sponsor for Families Supporting Families Affected by Covid.

Every Monday and Wednesday morning, they distribute 100-200 boxes of food supplied by Cocoa Packs, packed with meats, cheese, dairy, and produce, from behind the Broad Street Market at 6th and Verbeke streets. Boxes are not limited because as Williams said, “They get whatever they want because they take and share it with other people.”

Meanwhile, about a mile further north, Teresa Phinney (below) said trauma responders from the Camp Curtain YMCA offer 100 breakfast bags and 100 hot lunches every Monday-Friday. Breakfast is from 9-10 and lunch is served 1-2.

Today, a voter registration will be held between 1-3 p.m. and free diapers from a community diaper drive are offered between 1-3 p.m. The Camp Curtain YMCA is located at 2135 N. 6th St. in Harrisburg. For more information on the Camp Curtain Y’s programs, call 717-678-3253. Both distribution locations ask that people wear face masks and follow CDC social distancing guidelines.
