Campus Connections: High School to College Partnerships to Serve At-Risk Students

We invite you to join us for Campus Connections, a forum to address the needs of at-risk youth in their pursuit of higher education. This forum will discuss the challenges faced by these students, explore solutions, and allow participants to network with colleagues across the region. Experienced professionals and students will share their perspectives in this regional forum. 

8:30-9:00: Registration and Continental Breakfast

9:00-9:40: Welcome: Dr. Daniel Greenstein, Chancellor: Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education

9:40-10:20: Keynote: Dr. Kenneth Hawkinson, President of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania

10:20-10:30: Break

10:30-11:30:  Student Perspectives: A panel of present and graduated homeless and foster care college students

11:30-12:30: Lunch (each guest will receive a food voucher for use at PSU)

12:30-1:45:  Break Out Session 1

1:45-2:00: Break

2:00-3:15: Break Out Session 2

Federal Policies to Support Housing and Food Insecurity on College Campuses: Marissa Meyers, Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice

Exploring Financial Aid Options for Homeless and Foster Youth: William Lindsay, PHEAA

Perspectives from the Field: Experts Discuss Student Successes and Challenges: Amy Romano, Central Dauphin School District; Saundra James-Goodrum, Harrisburg School District; Cheri McConnell, Penn State University; Jeff Jones, Cheyney University

Chocolate and Poverty: Understanding the characteristics and traits of children and families living in poverty: Mark Brezitski, Milton Hershey School

College and Career Readiness at the High School Level: Stacy Dunleavy, Berks County Intermediate Unit


The event will be held at the Kulkarni Theater on the campus of Penn State Harrisburg. Use the library lot accessible from the intersection of Wharton Avenue and Olmsted Drive, or O Street.


Act 48 and CEU credits will be offered. You must complete an additional sign-up at the MLP site for Act 48 credits. CEU credit information will be available the day of the event.
