Working Together To Help Our Communities

Posted @ Sep. 26 2011 10:53AM by Michael A. Sand - city-beat

Now that the ten year anniversary remembrances of 9/11 are over, please do not forget the lessons that we learned.

One important recommendation is to join at least one of the many groups that have been formed to bring neighbors together to learn about each other’s faith and beliefs.

      ·        InterReligious Forum of Greater Harrisburg: Programs during the year to bring individuals of different faiths together. (pastorlori@mccofthespirit.org)

      ·        The Interfaith Alliance: Advocate for rights of individuals of all faiths

(interfaithalliance@pa.net)

      ·        Religion and Society Center: Study and discuss how different religions view biblical texts and work together. (rabbichoper@religionandsocietycenter.org)

·        Dauphin County Diversity Forum: Monthly meetings and other programs to learn about diversity in our communities. (Hector Ortiz, Dauphin County Human Services  717-780-6288)

·        Amazing Faiths:  Join young people at Sycamore House to discuss the impact of faith in our lives. (dsmessner@verizon.net)

·        LGBT Committee:  Attend monthly meetings of people of faith to support the rights of lesbians, gays, bi-sexual and transgendered individuals. (pastorlori@mccofthespirit.org)

·        Estamos Unidos de Pennsylvania:  Support programs to advance and better the lives of Hispanics through education and leadership. (George Fernandez 717-433-1784)

·        Latino Hispanic American Community Center (LHACC): Provide services and advocate for the Latino Hispanic-American community. (717-232-8300)

Send me an e-mail at MSand9999@aol.com with information on other groups that celebrate diversity. Let me know if you would like additional information on any of the groups listed above.

Join with your neighbors in improving your community.
